Babes Who Brunch

Our January Vancouver Babes Who Brunch features local boss babe Dora Kamau. Dora is a mental health visionary, self-care advocate and the founder of Bliss Your Heart, a platform that curates meaningful connections and experiences, by unpacking areas of sensitivity through up-lifting and raw conversations.

The Experience:

“There’s nothing more powerful than a woman determined to rise,” and at our monthly Babes Who Brunch event this saying could not ring more true. While the title sounds like an experience for the most basic, it is anything but, as each event goes way beyond the surface offering a safe space for strong and powerful women to gather together and embrace their vulnerabilities. Think Beyonce’s Lemonade, instead of Britney Spears’ Blackout.

Each Babes Who Brunch event begins with the intention to grow, connect with one another and become comfortable in the uncomfortable, and it is led by one fierce female keynote speaker who shares her insights, experiences and life story – aka #realtalk for real women.

Beyond the raw conversation, there is, of course, delicious brunch time eats and sips, making it the perfect start to your Saturday, providing you all the fuel you need to head into the weekend, and better yet, all the inspiration and insight you need to get a grip on your goals and kick-start your hustle long after.

Whether you come for the bubbles, the brunch or to hear from an incredible lady boss, it doesn’t matter. All are celebrated, all are welcome, and all will leave feeling empowered through the connection and community built at this signature ACE event. Don't be shy - attending solo is encouraged. Trust us, there will be no shortage of amazing women for you to connect with and gain inspiration from.

What's Included:

Ticket price includes coffee, a two-course brunch, a curated gift bag and impactful takeaways from a keynote speaker.

Evening with Grace - Rethinking Mental Health

We are very excited to present our next Evening With Grace - Rethinking Mental Health

We have three fantastic speakers ready to share stories about their journeys, hoping to change the way you look at Self Care, Wellness and Mental Health. We will also have an onsite Registered Clinical Counsellor in case anyone needs support during the event.*

We will have wine for purchase ($5/glass) and proceeds from the bar will go to Tri-City Transitions - supporting all individuals who have experienced domestic violence, and offers women and children a safe, secure place to rest, rejuvenate, and rebuild their lives.

Light snacks will also be provided by The Practice Studio!

As always, we will be collecting in-kind donations of new and gently used toiletries for the DTES Women's Centre. Please bring what you can!

Please let us know if there is anything we can do to make the evening more inclusive.

Our amazing line-up for the evening:

Anita Cheung is a creative who moonlights as a yoga therapist and a meditation teacher. She is passionate about mental health and elevating others. After first struggling with depression and suicidal ideation in her early 20s, she discovered meditation as a tool to help manage her mood. As a result, making meditation cool, accessible, and a thing that people actually do became a strong purpose and driving force in her life. Two years ago, she co-founded Canada's first modern meditation studio - MOMENT. These days, she spends most of her time working on In Bed With Betty (@meet.betty): A private, subscription-based Instagram community that offers Real Live Beditations for Real Lazy People. Anita will be talking about the long-game of mental health including the fallacy of "being cured" and practical self care.

Dora Kamau is a mental health visionary and self-care advocate. As the founder of Bliss Your Heart, an in-person and online platform, Dora creates and holds space for women to be empowered, to be heard and to be seen through honest, no fluff and zero filter conversations. Aside from being a student of life, Dora also holds a BA in Psychology, with a specialization in adolescent psychology and is currently working to complete her BSc. in Psychiatric Nursing.

Joyelle Brandt is a parenting coach who specializes in working with mothers who are survivors of abuse. As a speaker, mothering coach, and multi-media creator, Joyelle works to dismantle the stigma that keeps childhood abuse survivors stuck in shame and self-hatred. She is the author of Princess Monsters from A to Z and co-editor of Parenting with PTSD, the groundbreaking anthology that breaks the silence about the long-term impact of childhood trauma so that parents can break the cycle of abuse. When she is not busy raising two rambunctious boys, she is most often found playing her guitar or covered in paint at her art desk. You can keep up with Joyelle at www.joyellebrandt.com Follow her on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for art and inspiration.

*We understand that even in the most supportive, inclusive environments, talking about mental health can sometimes bring up difficult emotions. Jennifer Hollinshead is a Registered Clinical Counsellor, Founder and Clinical Director of Peak Resilience: a feminist therapy practice in Vancouver that specializes in supporting amazing women. She's joining our event as a participant but has also volunteered to help people who want a little extra support.
